In July we welcomed Michael Soderland from Sweden as our Exchange Student. D.G. Colin Martin made his Official Visit to the Club and he and his wife Dorothy were tendered a Civic Reception by the Mayor of Eaglehawk, Cr. Leon Scott.
Rotarian John Brook was elected to the Eaglehawk Council in August following the resignation of Leon Scott. After thanking the Club for assisting with medical expenses Shamina & her sister were escorted back to Fiji by Rotarian Graham Donaldson. A Fellowship weekend to the Mallee Sunset Country and Pink Lakes was held and a visit by the GSE Team received.
In September Baby Sumalto, aged 12 months, was brought to Bendigo from Fiji by Rotarian Graham & Jenny Donaldson. Jenny took the baby and her sister to Adelaide for reconstruction surgery. Cost was $1,300 per Club. Also in September there was a Progressive Dinner, Rabbiting Weekend, Combined Rotary/Rotaract Dinner and the Annual Golf Day raised $1,000. The Club hosted children from ‘Cancer Support Network’ who had pony rides at P.P. Roy Parker’s Farm, Tram Ride and inspection of Central Deborah Mine.
The Club raised $5,000 in October from Working Bees to put wheels on new green garbage bins and deliver one to each house in Eaglehawk.
P.P. Gordon McKern was elected as District Governor for 1992/1993.
For Clean-up-Australia Day the Club worked at the Cemetery, Crematorium, Lake Neangar and Lake Tom Thumb. A child was sponsored for the Lord Mayors Camp.
In November a Rotary Foundation Dinner was held at Essendon with P.R.I.P. Royce Abbey as guest speaker when P.P. Lindsay Roberts was presented with a R.F.D. Service Award for his outstanding effort for Polio Plus. A cover was constructed over the BBQ area at Rotary
Park and a number of trees planted. A wall was constructed at the entrance to the Crematorium. The Annual Fishing Day was held at Arakoon when $3,400 was raised. The Club visited Mayfair Park and won the November Attendance Challenge with an attendance of 98.71%.
In December the Christmas Party was held at the Senior Citizens Clubrooms when the Mayor of Eaglehawk, Cr. Willi Carney, conferred Australian Citizenship on P.P. John Haugh.
In January our Outgoing Exchange Student, Lyndon Hosking, flew to Canada. D.G. Nominee Gordon McKern spoke on the role and responsibilities of a District Governor and the Club agreed to host the District Conference in 1992/1993.
An Inter Club visit to Maryborough was held in February and Rotarians called on 630 homes in Eaglehawk re the introduction of “Neighbourhood Watch”.
In March a float was entered in the Dahlia & Arts Festival Procession and the Club assisted in many ways with the Festival arrangements.
The Club donated $2,000 towards a Portable Saw Mill at the Solomon Islands. The District Conference was held in Hobart when the Club received the Attendance Trophy for the 6th time.
RYLA nominees were Adam Wild and Jodie Tuddenham & RYPEN nominees were Tammy Freemantle & Greg Dromy.
In May Eucy Mulch was spread on surrounds of Lake Neangar and 2000 trees were planted with the Balwyn Club and Students from Deepdene State School.
Community Awards were made to Mrs Ruby Richards and Mrs Maria Cogo. Michael Soderland returned to Sweden. Jack Taylor was awarded an OAM and members catered for a Repco Trade Night which raised $1,320.
Leon Scott was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow and John Brook won the Golden Eagle Achievement Award.
1991-1992

In August the Club celebrated its Silver Anniversary with a special dinner at the Eaglehawk Town Hall. A booklet was printed of the History of the 1st 25 years of the Club. Four of the Charter Members still belonged to the Club, viz; P.P’s Roy Parker, Bill O’Brien, Ken Burch and Tom Rothacker. Many Guests were present including the ‘godfather’ of the Club, P.P. Ken Hesse, PHF, from the Rotary Club of Bendigo who were the Sponsors of Eaglehawk Club. P.P. Gordon and Anita McKern presented an honour board of both Incoming and outgoing Exchange Students.
A cheque for $412 was presented to the Bendigo Chinese Association for Stage 2 of the building Programme.
A combined Clubs ‘Lindy Chamberlain’ Dinner was held at Lansells Restaurant and raised $2,200 – Eaglehawks share was $582.
A family fun night was held in the RSL Hall in September.
In October the Club was presented with a Gold Membership of the Australian Cranio-Maxillo Foundation in recognition of the support given. An Inter-Club visit was made to Daylesford and support given to the Peer Support Group at Eaglehawk Secondary School. Andrew Lane & Janda Taylor were selected as our nominees to RYPEN
An Inter Club visit was made to Maryborough in November and the Annual Fishing Competition was held at Arakoon when $2,450 was raised. A Fellowship night was held at Jing Jang Chinese Restaurant.
In December the Club selected Alicia Flanders fro Eaglehawk Secondary College to attend the Science Summer School in Canberra. The Christmas Night was held in the Eaglehawk Town Hall.
The first BBQ for January was held at Donaldsons and the second at Rotary Park. The Club, as usual, conducted a Sausage Sizzle at the Australia Day Celebrations and Lydon Hosking returned from Canada.
An Inter Club visit was received from Maryborough in February, a Pool Party at the home of P.P. Lindsay & Dot Roberts and 6 Members and wives attended District 9780 Conference at Ballarat to ascertain suitability of facilities.
Paint Your Heart Out was conducted in early March when members of the Club painted two homes.
A cheque for $1,000 was forwarded to IPAC.
The Dahlia & Arts revue in early April was a great success with $1,680 being raised for the Australia Health Research Fund. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Master Painters John Kane and Eric Nolan for their expertise in the Paint Your Heart Out Project. Work was carried out to help restore Letherby’s Grave where one of Eaglehawks early Mayors was buried. The District Conference was held in Adelaide when Eaglehawk again won the Attendance Trophy.
In May the Pie & Port Night was held at O’Brien’s. A clean up of rubbish and rocks from Lake Neangar was carried out.
In June the Club cooked a sausage sizzle at the opening of Tip Top Bakery – 2000 sausages were cooked plus numerous drinks sold. The Club raised $3,000 in 4 hours.
Community Awards were made to Mrs Maureen Fitzpatrick and Mrs Olive Bice.
The District Governors Changeover was held at the Bendigo Schweppes Centre on 27th June 1992 when Eaglehawk’s Gordon McKern was installed as District Governor for 1992/93

In July P.P. Leon Scott was congratulated on his return to Council.
Mathew Jensen was selected in August as our nominee to attend the National Summer Science School and Lola Miller was installed as the Mayor of Eaglehawk.
Rotaract successfully celebrated its 20th Anniversary in September.
Weekly Meetings of the Conference Committee were being held each Sunday at the offices of McKern Manufacturing.
In October the Club received advice that the late P.P. Jim Evans had bequeathed $2,000 to the Club to be used as a Scholarship Fund. The Annual Golf day to raise funds for Student Exchange was again held at Neangar Park Golf Course. The Rotary Club of Williamstown visited for a Fellowship Weekend when a Spit Roast and entertainment was held at the Bowhunters Club. The Club achieved 100% attendance during the October ‘Attendance Challenge’
The Fishing Competition was again held at Arakoon in November. District Governor Gordon McKern and wife Anita made the Official Visit to the Club and a Civic Reception was tendered by Cr. Lola Miller. At the meeting Pres. Rob presented D.G. Gordon with a Certificate as a Rotary Foundation Benefactor.
A cheque for $200 was presented to the Australian Coastguard Association Flotilla at Eppalock.
BBQ’s were held at Members homes for two meetings in January and the usual Sausage Sizzle was held on Australia Day. P.P. Alan Bull, PHF, was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award
At the Dahlia & Arts Festival in March the Club carried out the usual duties and the Rotary Night in the Town Hall was a Revue by the Eaglehawk Golf Club, “The Journey Begins”.
The Club Hosted the District 9800 Conference in Ballarat on 26th, 27th & 28th February 1993. The “Country Conference was a great success. A separate report is written on this Conference.
In April a Feast & Fun Night to raise funds for Rota Homes in Fiji was held at P.P. Bill & Rita O’Brien’s home when 117 people attended. Tables were decorated and glowing torches around the fences created a real tropical atmosphere. The evening raised $4,500 was raised to build Rota-Homes in the Cyclone devastated areas of Fiji.
In May the Club took part in “Paint Your Heart Out” again when a house in Hall Street, Eaglehawk was painted. Members of the Club assisted Daylesford Club by manning doors at their Cottage & Industry Fair & Exhibition.
The Rotary International Convention was held in Melbourne in June when several of our Members and wives attended. During the Convention members of Clubs in Bangkok entertained members from Eaglehawk at a Thai Restaurant. Bhichai Rattakul, who was the R.I. Presidents Representative at the Country Conference and was later to become R.I. President, was part of the Bangkok contingent.
The weekly wood raffle recommenced in June.
At the Changeover Dinner P.P. John Gurr was presented with the Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Achievement Award for his work as Treasurer of the Conference.
P.P. Lindsay Roberts received a Paul Harris Fellow for his work in Rotary and in particular for his work as Conference Chairman.
President Rob Layton also presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Anita McKern in recognition of the massive amount of work she had contributed and the support she had given as wife of our District Governor. This was the first time in the history of the Eaglehawk Club that a PHF had been awarded to the wife of a Rotarian
February 1993
The Country Conference.
Gordon McKern was the first Rotarian from a country based Club to be elected as District Governor of District 9800.
Many months were spent by members of the Club in preparation for the Country Conference that was held in Ballarat on 26th, 27th and 28th February 1993. Many trips were made to Ballarat in the 12 months preceding the Conference and meeting held regularly on Sunday Mornings at the offices of McKern Manufacturing. (Some meetings even necessitated having lunch prepared by Anita and other Committee members’ wives.) The wives of Club Members were also very heavily involved in this Project – possibly the biggest project that the Rotary Club of Eaglehawk had tackled.
The “Country Conference was a great success with over 1300 registrants – the highest number ever in D9800. The Club received many accolades for this important event. The R.I. Presidents Representative was Bhichai Rattakul from Bangkok, Thailand – a very humble man who endeared himself to everyone in attendance and became a great friend of our Club. Assistance was received from the Rotary Club of Rochester with The House of Friendship & Parking, the Rotary Club of Daylesford with Decorations in the Old Brewery and the Rotary Club of Woodend with Sporting Events.
A thank you Dinner was held for the Rochester & Daylesford Clubs a few weeks after the Conference.
The Official Opening and Plenary Sessions were held in the historic “Her Majesty’s Theatre” in Lydiard Street, morning, afternoon teas and luncheon in the Old Brewery (fantastically decorated by Daylesford Club) and the Grandiose Medieval Banquet on Saturday Night, complete with Minstrels, Wenches, Pipers and old customs at Kryal Castle. Workshop Sessions were held at the Ballarat School of Mines.
John Lidgerwood, Margaret Nisbet and Martin Ralph performed entertainment on the opening night together with the Ballarat & Claredon College band.
Guest Speakers and Presenters included a representative from the Fred Hollows Foundation, R.I.P.P. Royce Abbey, Professor Y.T. Kee, Christina Hindhaugh, Elizabeth Proust, John Kendall, A.M., Eve Mumewa D. Fesl, PhD., O.A.M., Professor Terry Dwyer, Haikai Tane, and John Opie.
On the Sunday of the Conference the Itchy Feet Pep Band led the registrants to the luncheon and Constance Coward-Lemke and the Ballarat Youth Choir entertained at the closing.
All the Stage Settings were built by members of the Club, including a Lectern fashioned as a Mining Windlass.
A very successful Conference that was the talk of the District for many years.
1993-1994
President: Ron Moss
District Governor Rob Dunne & wife Faye visited the Club in July and was tendered a Civic Reception by the Mayor Cr. Lola Miller. Catering for the Repco Trade Night raised $1,300-00.
In August P.P. Bill O’Brien’s book entitle “Is that a Joke or Not” was launched. This book of Jokes and advice for Sergeants at Arms sold for $7-00 each with the proceeds directed towards the Rota-Homes.
The Rabbiting Weekend was held at Boort in September with 40 people (including children) attending plus 5 trail bikes and 8 ferrets. A great time was enjoyed despite the rain – Four of the 14 vehicles were bogged.
In October a Club Visit was made to inspect the facilities at Mt. Alvernia Hospital and a sausage sizzle at Kings Tuckerbag raised $130-00.
A Fellowship Day was held at Halls Gap in November and the G.S.E. Team visited the Club. The Annual Fishing Competition was held at Arakoon with 357 Senior and 120 Junior entrants.
The Christmas Night was held at the Senior Citizens Club Rooms when former Exchange Student, Michael Soderland from Sweden visited the Club.
In January a Fellowship BBQ was held at the home of Graham & Jenny Donaldson and a night at the Golden Link Deborah Mine.
On Australia Day our meeting was transferred to the Australia Day Celebrations when the usual Sausage Sizzle was held.
Charter Member P.P. Ken Burch tendered his resignation in January due to poor health. He had served for 28 years with 100% Attendance each year. P.P. Ken was elected an Honorary Member of the Club.
In February a Pool Party was held at President Ron & Jeanette’s home.
In March a ‘Rotary History Night’ was held with P.P’s Roy Parker, Bill O’Brien, Bill Miller, Bill Slee, Alan Bull, Leon Scott, Lindsay Roberts and Joe Miles as speakers. The District Conference was held in Adelaide and Eaglehawk again won the District Attendance Trophy with an average of 94.49%.
In April P.D.G. Gordon McKern was sworn in as a Commissioner of the newly formed City of Greater Bendigo.
Assistance was given at the St. Laurence Court Fair by cooking the BBQ and Sav & Rolls in May and 27 Rotarians picked 5.7 tons of Grapes at a Working Bee which raised $500-00. Assistance was again given to Daylesford for their Working Craft Fair and a Pie & Port Night was held at O’Brien’s.
The Annual Citizenship Award was made to Mrs Jean Miles for Service to the Community and Mrs Monique Howie of Bodings Cakes was awarded the Shop Assistant of the year.

1994-1995

A letter was received from Rotary District Health Project Committee thanking the Club for its donation of $1,916-00 to the Rotary Bone Marrow Research Appeal.
In August Rotarian Len Hands reported on a F.A.I.M. trip to the Solomon Islands to build a Clinic & Residence.
District Governor David Rosback and Judy made their Official Visit to the Club in September and a visit was received from the G.S.E. Team from Bangladesh.
In October P.P. Leon Scott was elected to the Committee of District 9800 for the selection of District Governor. A successful Golf Day was held at Neangar Park Golf Course that raised $1,757-85. P.P. Lindsay Roberts accepted the task of visiting 250 small businesses to ascertain if they could employ additional people as part of the “Employ Australia” project. Members assisted with the Heart Foundation Doorknock and the Rabbiting weekend was again held at Boort.
P.P. Stan Spencely took the R.Y.P.E.N. students to Lancefield in November and the Club assisted Rotaract in a big Bonfire that was attended also by the Police and 4 Fire Brigades. The Fishing Competition was again conducted together with a Raffle for a Boat, trailer and Caravan – the event raised $2,685 of which $1,500 was donated to Rotaract. A progressive Dinner was also held in November and P.D.G. Gordon McKern was appointed as Chief Commissioner of the Shire of Mitchell.
In January BBQ’s were held at Lougoon’s and Donaldson’s and the Club catered at the Australia Day Ceremony. Advice was received from Rotary in Fiji that the Rota Homes were completed and enclosed photographs of before and after construction.
A combined Picnic with Daylesford and Hoppers Crossing was held in February and an Inter Club visit was received from Castlemaine. A combined Breakfast was held and $465 was handed to ROMAC.
The Club participated in the Clean up Australia Project in March and also Grape Picking for Lougoon’s Winery. Andrew McDonald was selected to attend the Summer Science School. The Club received two awards at the District Conference, Attendance and Rotary/Rotaract Cooperation.
In April a F.A.I.M. Team led by Rotarian Len Hands left for the Kokoda Trail – they were presented with a parcel of Hardware by BBC Hardware. Other members of the Team were Leon Scott, David Dolman, Stan Spencely, Ralph Weeks and Lindsay Roberts.
A Port & Pie night was held at Stan & Jan Spencely’s when over $800 was raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
During May 5,000 books were collected to be sent to New Guinea and the catering for the Repco Trade Night raised $1,500.
P.P. Leon Scott advised the Club in June that a ‘screen’ built by Club Members, together with 1000 books and some footballs had been dispatched to New Guinea.
P.P. Bill Miller’s wife Lola received the award of the Order of Australia in the Queens Birthday honours.
Mrs Eileen Tuohey and Mr. Con Barbetti received the Annual Citizenship Awards from the Club.
P.P. John Haugh was honoured as a Paul Harris Fellow at the Annual Changeover Dinner.
1995-1996
President: David Dolman
District Governor Kes Steele and his wife Lynne made an Official Visit to the Club on 19th July 1995. P.P. Rob Layton was appointed as The District Governors Representative for the Clubs in the Castlemaine, Bendigo, Rochester and Echuca area.
P.P. Bill O’Brien was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow during the D.G’s visit.
In August a cheque for $500 was given to the Woodvale Rural Fire Brigade to assist with the purchase of a new Truck.
The Rabbiting Weekend was again held in September.
In October enough parts were found at the Recovery Yard to make two bicycles for St. Lukes Family Care. The Annual Golf Day was held as well as the Annual Fishing Competition at Arakoon.
A team from Eaglehawk won the Combined Rotary Clubs Trivia Night in November and the Club assisted Rochester with their “Tractor Pull”. A new Neighbourhood Watch Programme was started in Eaglehawk – the 3rd one that the Club had helped to establish.
In December the Club assisted the Dahlia & Arts Festival Committee with Carols by Candlelight.
The two BBQ’s in January were held at Parkers & Lougoon’s. Catering for a Sausage Sizzle at the Australia Day Celebrations was successful.
A working Bee was held at McKern’s Factory to stamp books that were being dispatched to Kokoda.
In February Mrs Lola Miller, wife of P.P. Bill Miller was announced as the “Victorian of the Year”. A pool Party was held at the home of Lindsay Roberts.
An inspection, in March, was made of the Shamrock Hotel followed by Finger Food. Katja Patojoki, a former Exchange Student from Finland in 1988/89 visited the Club on this night. She was staying with her former counsellor, Rob & June Layton. P.P. John Haugh was installed as President of the Probus Club of Eaglehawk.
Eaglehawk again won the District Attendance Trophy.
In April we hosted the G.S.E. Team from Brazil and Paint Your Heart Out was again conducted.
A Farewell for Len Hands & Leon Scott was held prior to them departing for New Guinea again on a F.A.I.M. trip. The sum of $500 was donated towards equipment for the Hospital in New Guinea.
In June Honorary Member Jack Taylor organised the Red Shield Appeal. Our members collected $950-52 for the Appeal. Another book working bee was held and a visit was made to inspect the Bendigo Law Courts.
P.P. Vin Walshe was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow and P.P. Joe Miles was awarded the Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Award.
1996-1997
President: Noel Wicks
In August the Club celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a Dinner at the Senior Citizens Clubrooms with each Past President giving a short report on the happenings during their year of office. Many Past Members attended.
The Repco Trade Night catering raised $1,475.
“Walkabout Whipstick” was held with children from many local Primary Schools taking part. The children and teachers were then treated to a BBQ luncheon.
In September the first female member, Rosie Coleman, was inducted into the Club.
A working bee was held at the Portsea Camp in October. The Golf Day at Neangar Park Golf Course raised $1,399-60. Another successful Rabbiting Weekend was held in Boort.
In November a surprise 90th Birthday Party was held for Muriel Roy and an Inter Club visit to Daylesford was held.
Eight pallets of books were sent to New Guinea in January and the Club catered for the Australia Day Celebrations. P.P. Bill Slee was congratulated for his magnificent effort in the Victorian Bike Ride.
In February the Group Study Exchange Team visited the Bendigo area.
The Rotary Night for the Dahlia & Arts Festival in March was titled “Parody”. The Club also organised a sausage sizzle and fireworks at Rotary Park for the Festival. Proceeds from a “Chocolate Stall” at the Bendigo Easter Fair raised $1,760.
In April the Club organised a Gala Charity Ball in the Bendigo Town Hall for the Mayor of the City of Greater Bendigo, Cr. Meagan Weston. This event raised in excess of $2,500. Ten tons of grapes were picked at Lougoon’s Vineyard. Assistance was given with the catering at the St. Laurence Court Fair for which the Club shared in the profit.
In May a working Bee was held at Rotary Park and in June a “Black Cat” night was held at the Bark Hut with entertainment organised by Rotarian Trevor Lock.
At the Changeover Dinner President Noel Wicks presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Mrs Anne Scott, wife of P.P. Leon Scott, for her excellent work in many Rotary activities and her service to the Community.
The Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Award was presented to Rotarian Ralph Weeks for his work in organising the Walkabout Whipstick project.
1997-1998

A working Bee was held at the Portsea Camp on 29th, 30th & 31st August 1997. A working Bee was also held to prepare for a new project named “Cycleabout Whipstick”
In September the Club again conducted Walkabout Whipstick for the children of Bendigo Primary Schools on 3rd September and then the new Cycleabout Whipstick on Sunday 7th September. The Rotaract Club of Eaglehawk celebrated their 25th Anniversary on Saturday 20th September.
The Annual Golf Day was held in October and raised $1,356.The Rabbiting and Yabbying weekend was held at Jeff Lougoon’s property. Rotarian Rosie Coleman transported students to the RYPEN weekend at Trentham. Sixty people attended an Afternoon Tea Dance with a good Jazz Band. Profit was $106-00.
In December the Club assembled the Nativity Scene on the balcony of the Eaglehawk Town Hall. Lauren Hartland and Susan Mountjoy of Eaglehawk Secondary School were the recipients of the Jim Evans Memorial Scholarships.
BBQ’s were held at Parker’s and Millonig’s in January.
The Club again won the District Attendance Trophy and the Rodney Vincent Concert, attended by 186 people, made a profit of $1,768-00.
A cheque for $1,000 was received from the City of Greater Bendigo in payment for the Club distributing recycling crates. A cheque for $333 was passed to the Rotaract Club for the part they played in the distribution of the crates.
In May a Silent Movie Night was held at the Campbell Theatrette with Rotaract doing the catering for the meal. Another working bee, with 8 members from the Club present was held at Portsea Camp to continue with drainage works,
In June a cheque was received from Surdex Steel to be divided between the Portsea Camp Project and the Kokoda Trail Project.
A Rotary Community Service Award was made to Mr. Alan Burkitt and the Rotary Junior Citizen Award was made to Anthony Dajcic who had recently won the Building Studies Apprentice of the Year Award.
The Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Achievement Award was presented to P.P. Alan Bull and Rotarians Joe Cogo and Ralph Weeks were honoured as Paul Harris Fellows.
1998-1999

In July Leon Scott and Len Hands left for a F.A.I.M. trip to New Guinea. P.D.G. Gordon McKern presented an Honour Board of the recipients of Paul Harris Fellows on behalf of President Bill Slee, P.P. Leon Scott and himself.
District Governor Colin Gibbons made an Official Visit to the Club in August. Another Working Bee was held at the Portsea Camp and a Fellowship Bus Trip was made to Melbourne to see ‘Les Miserables’. Catering for the Repco Trade Night raised the sum of $1,446-50.
In September both Walkabout Whipstick and Cycleabout Whipstick were held.
A report was received in October from the Combined Rotary Clubs Meeting that all Clubs were going to take part in the Annual Swap Meeting Catering. Rotary would be organising the Luncheon Room, Barbeques and Milk Van. 10% of Profits would go to the Swap Meeting organisers. Eaglehawks responsibility would be for F.J’s. Café. The Community House would receive 50% of the profits with the remaining 50% being divided between the 6 Clubs. The overall profit was $26,624.
The Rabbiting Weekend was held at Jeff Lougoon’s Property at Patho.
Late in October P.P. Howard Osborne visited the Pattaya Orphanage that the Club had been supporting for some time.
Mock interviews at Catholic College were completed in November by P.P’s. John Haugh & Rob Layton and Rotarian Wayne McAuliffe and the Club joined the combined Rotary Clubs Project to erect a Playground at Lake Weeroona.
In December the Club assisted with Carols by Candlelight.
B.B.Q’s. were held at Lougoon’s and Parker’s in January and a Pool Party at Robert’s. P.P. Ron Moss and Jeanette Moss were awarded the Eaglehawk Citizens of the Year Award on Australia Day. Working Bee’s were held at Knotley’s Reserve in the Whipstick Forest
The District Conference was held in Adelaide. President Bill Slee took part in a Bike Ride from Melbourne to Adelaide to raise funds for the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund. A reception was held at the Fountain for the riders and the Eaglehawk Club hosted a BBQ at Rotary Park. The Club carried out the usual duties for the Dahlia & Arts Festival.
In April the Group Study Exchange Team from Japan visited Eaglehawk. A cheque for $500 was received for assistance given at the Grocery Golf Day and a successful Fellowship night was held at the Military Tattoo in Bendigo. The District Rotary Image Award was presented to the Combined Bendigo Clubs for their work for the Swap Meeting Catering.
In May catering was carried out for the A.M.P’s “Ignite the Dream” and the Spastic Society Special Children’s Day.
President-Elect Wayne McAuliffe advised the Club that he had been successful in obtaining a Grant of $21,000 from the AMP Foundation towards the cost of the fit-out and furnishing for the 2 Rotary Houses for the Homeless in Crook Street. The Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Achievement Award was made to P.P. Leon Scott

In August P.P’s Stan Spencely, Alan Bull and Joe Miles assisted in building Housing for Humanity Home in California Gully and the Revd. Finlayson-Smith spoke at the Club and conveyed thanks for the work carried out. Five hundred trees were planted at Albert Roy Reserve.
At Walkabout Whipstick in September the City of Greater Bendigo donated $1,000 to assist the Club to bring refugees from Kosovo from Puckapunyal for the day as a treat for the children. One hundred and six people from Kosovo attended and Barry Bishop MLC officially opened the Shelter built by Rotary at Knotley’s Reserve. Cycleabout Whipstick was also held in September.

In October District Governor Vance Hilton and Olga made an Official Visit to the Club.
The Club again took part in catering for the Swap Meeting in November and Eaglehawk received $6,500 of the profit. Unfortunately the Rotaract Club of Eaglehawk was no longer able to operate and consequently returned their Charter.
In December the Club installed the re-vamped (by Trevor Lock) Nativity Scene on the Town Hall Balcony. P.P’s Leon Scott and Len Hands showed a video of the work in building the Hospital at Kokoda. A Christmas Stocking Raffle was held – generous support was received from the Eaglehawk Traders.
The Club gave financial assistance for two Students from Eaglehawk Secondary College to attend Bendigo Senior High.
The Club sent a student to Canberra for “Adventures in Citizenship” in January and also catered for the Australia Day Celebrations.
The Kyneton Rotary Entertainers assisted with our Dahlia & Arts Concert in March - a total of $1,232 was raised. P.P. Bill Slee again took part in the “Rotary Ride for Research” to the District Conference in Canberra. The Eaglehawk Club entertained the Riders whilst in Bendigo.
In April Kylie Densmore and Ross Aitkenhead represented the Club at RYLA. Club members attended the Pie & Port Night in Rochester in May
In June a Fellowship Trip was held to the Sound of Music and the Club assisted with the Red Shield Appeal. A Vocational Service visit was made to BTB Smash Repairs.
The Sutcliffe Golden Eagle Achievement Award was awarded to Rotarian Trevor Lock and P.P. Bill Slee and P.P. Rob Layton were honoured with Paul Harris Fellow awards
