March 12th 2025

A great start to our week with the announcement that our fundraising efforts on International Women's Day will mean that the donation to Endometriosis Australia will be $1,278.00.  Our members can take a bow, this is a great result financially but equally important was taking the opportunity to share information and raise awareness of this chronic illness that can have such a negative effect on so many lives.

Rotarian John Gurr will be placing an order for Rotary branded clothing this Friday (14th March) so a quick call to John is a good idea if you were planning on getting any new gear.

Concerns have arisen over the last few days with regard to the donut stall in Canterbury Park this Saturday and considering the weather forecast it was decided that we would unfortunately have to withdraw from the event.  A donation equivalent to the site fee has been made to the Eaglehawk Community House, the event organisers.

Friday 21st March we are out at Belvoir Park Golf Club serving up a great egg & bacon breakfast to the golfers who will be gathering for a fun day of golf  to raise funds for the Imagination Library.  John J will be calling for volunteers for the roster over the next few days.

A reminder to members for next weeks attendance, (remember it is presumed you will be attending unless you advise otherwise), Carmel is away (flitting off on a bit of a holiday!) and so Lindsay is taking the reins and will need to be advised if you are an apology for the meeting.

Members were asked to share the load and take on the distribution of flyers for the Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet.  Mick has more flyers if you need additional supplies.

Our next board meeting is Wednesday of next week.  So reports to Secretary John by Monday would be great.

Planning for the book stall is well underway with Mick Costello coordinating the set up and pack up and Mandy will be running the day.  A roster of volunteers will be needed closer to the event but in the mean time, if you are able to assist with the set up/pack down please let Mick know.

President Alison
Here is what's happening around the club -
Photo Finishing
Our club were treated to an insight into the inner workings of just how sporting events utilise photo finishing technology.  Laurie Preston has been somewhat of a pioneer in this specialised field and is a regular part of the team at local athletic events and has taken his skills internationally.  Many thanks for your intriguing presentation to the club Laurie.

Dahlia & Arts Festival Street Parade
Our club's entry into the parade this year is coming along nicely - a promotion for both our club and the forthcoming Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet.  Well done to the team of helpers who have been hard at it putting together the float.  Special mention to Gary Frank, Mick Costello, John Jones, Brian Fitzpatrick, Geoff Gallagher, Tim Watts and Lindsay Walkington.

Endometriosis Australia and
International Women's Day
The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle held on Saturday 8th March was a very successful day with in excess of $1,000 being raised.  The club's decision to donate to Endometriosis Australia was in recognition of International Women's Day and March being Endometriosis awareness month.  Well done to all who worked on the day - this was a great result, not only did we raise funds but also an awareness of the disease that has an effect on 1 in 7 women in Australia.  More information and resources available at - https://endometriosisaustralia.org/

Sue Foley - Celtic Festival
We recently heard from Sue Foley on the Celtic Festival and her current 'Celtic on Tour'.  Sue has since contacted the club via PDG Ron -

Dennis and I really enjoyed the meeting and seeing all the wonderful, and numerous programs in which your club and members are involved.

Thank you for your support of the Celtic Festival in recent years as well as coming along to the Capital – it will be a really fun afternoon.

We are heading off on tour this week so I will be sure to come to a meeting in April and let you all know how it went and what we were able to raise on 17 March.

Looking forward to helping you with a few musical things later in the year.

For those members who are keen to further support Sue's tour right here in Central Victoria -
