Rotary Club of Eaglehawk announced the Eaglehawk Citizen of the Year - congratulations to Terry O'Brien, a stalwart of the Eaglehawk Community, as a member of the Police force for some 52 years and stationed at Eaglehawk for the last 27 years, Terry's connection and commitment to the community were evident as the long list of his involvements was read to the crowd in attendance.  Also lovely to see the many comments on the club's Facebook post from members of the community congratulating Terry on his award, great to see the community getting behind such a worthy recognition.

Thank you to all who came along to our celebrations, enjoying the occasion in the cool comfort of our beautiful Canterbury Gardens.

A message from the District Governor of Rotary District 9800 -

As you will be aware we have recently had devastating bushfires here in Victoria. While our District Clubs were not directly impacted it came close with Harcourt near Castlemaine being heavily impacted. District 9790 was heavily impacted and there was also impact in 9780.

While there are fires still blazing, they are currently not a threat to homes or lives and I am mindful there is hotter weather forecast and so we may have new events to deal with in the future.

For now, I want to make you aware of the various options available to members and clubs to aid in the recovery as follows:

Harcourt
Rotary Castlemaine is working closely to provide assistance in Harcourt and it is best to contact them to find out how best you can assist and to do so recommend you email them at castlemainerc.pres@gmail.com.  For now, they have more than enough clothing donations and will be working through what is needed with those affected. The club has set up a dedicated bank account for any donations.

District 9790
As there are multiple areas in D9790 affected if your club has an existing relationship with any affected areas feel free to make contact. If you are looking to make a donation to the general relief fund which is being managed by DG Emma Davis and her team you can donate directly to their bank account which is BSB 633000, Account No 144191087 which is the D9790 Disaster Account

Also, I have been made aware that Rotary Club of Alexandra is seeking donations which they can use to provide vouchers to those affected and in need of assistance. Their bank account details are BSB 083503, account no 606630744

Household Goods
The Eastern, Western, Rotary Inner Melbourne and Ballarat Community Care Emergency Relief Networks are working together to begin collecting donations of household goods both good quality used and new. PDG Ross Butterworth is heading up the project and more details will be provided in due course.

Donations in Kind
Thanks to Colleen and the team at DIK clubs and other districts have been made aware of the variety of new products they have in stock that may be needed in some if not all the affected communities. Clubs can source items of need to provide to those in need.

Rotary Australia World Community Service Victorian Bushfire Appeal
RAWCS have an appeal in place to make donations for Bushfire Recovery. This may be another option to consider but in doing so you need to be aware of the following. They have a 5% admin fee which although very reasonable may be an issue for some and where and how the funds are expended is at their direction.

BlazeAid
For those not aware, BlazeAid is a charity that puts together teams to rebuild fences in affected areas to protect remaining livestock and secure property boundaries. They are seeking donations to fund the program along with volunteers so for more details go to wwwblazeaid.com.au

As I said, given the Bushfire Season is not over there may be more to come so this information may assist with future events and for now as either a member or as a club you have options about where and how you provide support.

While our District is not directly seeking funds at this time in the future if specific needs arise, we may do so to assist with things like transport costs to move collected goods. For now, and for the coming weeks and months, we all have the opportunity to Unite for Good and help those who have been affected.

To that end I also recommend that clubs consider visiting impacted areas like Harcourt in the future to provide them with more assistance to get back on their feet.

If you have any questions or suggestions please get in contact. peter.shepheard@rotary9800.org

DG Peter Shepheard

Third Place Winner - Ticket No 2087 - Sharyn of Kangaroo Flat - wins a $300 Fuel Voucher

Congratulations to each of the winners.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who purchased tickets - your support of our fundraising efforts is truly appreciated.

What's that I hear, you haven't bought your raffle tickets yet! 🫨 Then you need a trip to Lansell Square where you will find our ticket sellers until Thursday 18th December - here is a reminder of just some of the prizes.

A proud tradition of our club is to see that the Nativity Scene is displayed in the main street of Eaglehawk to ensure its history, from its origins from the Borough of Eaglehawk are retained, remembered and explained to those who have not had the benefit of having seen this in the past.  The editorial included with the scene explains its origins, but for those who may not get to see it in the window of 'Vinnies' at 23 High Street, Eaglehawk, it's reproduced here for your benefit.  Also included is a great image of the scene taken just a couple of days ago, always a challenge to get a good shot at night but this one seems to do it justice.

This week's sales have been a great success, moving us ahead of last year's sales!  Well done to all ticket sellers.  Alex and Trevor, volunteers from the City of Bendigo Brass Band, can be seen here setting up for the day's sales last Saturday at the Bendigo Market Place.

A reminder to our club members, the raffle books that have been distributed to you for sale also play an important role in the overall success of this raffle each year.  Remember, you are not expected to buy them, but any tickets that you can sell to family and friends is greatly appreciated.  Let's see if we can go one better than last year - GP we are looking at you - how many books did you sell last year........?  Was it 10?  Members are asked to return your books (preferably with at least some tickets sold) to Alison this Wednesday 10th December.

Our meeting held at the book shop was an opportunity for members to see and hear about the history of the O'Brien Pharmacy and its evolution into the Eaglehawk Rotary Bookshop.  It's an amazing resource for the community; the variety and quality of the books is really something that has to be seen to be believed.  Many thanks to Lynne for the photography on the night - made the bulletin editors job a lot easier.

The Planning for our Club's Annual Australia Day Breakfast is well underway and while we work in the background to finalise planning for the event we are hoping everyone would also be considering possible nominations for the Citizen, and Young Citizen, of the Year Awards.

These awards form an important part of the Australia Day Breakfast held in Canterbury Park Gardens each year as the event is the ideal opportunity for our local Community to recognise and honour that person in our community who has contributed and helped to make our 'Borough' the wonderful place that it is.

Nomination forms are available to download from this website - see menu options above.  Who will you nominate ..........?

District Governor Peter 'This is awesome', as he strolled through the book shop and marvelled at the displays.  Not only the books that we had on offer but the volunteers under the guidance and leadership of Rita.  Paul O'Brien joined in the fun and took Peter for a tour of inspection of the historical aspect of the shop - quite outstanding!  A huge thank you to all who joined Rita at the bookshop and shared the fun visit with Peter.  Major thank you for the morning tea spread - has anyone ever seen scones that large before?
