Our numbers were up slightly on last week, bolstered by a man with a big Texan Hat (the truth being it was a Canadian hat, but it didn’t sound as good). Great to see you back Geoff Adcock and looking forward to you reporting back to us on your trip, in particular the International Rotary Convention in Calgary.
Apologies this week from Brain Fitzpatrick, Ben Hill, Barbara Leane, Rita O’Brien, Ron Payne, John Pearce, Mary Preston and Jenny Sanderson.
Reports from the meeting
Catering for the Bendigo Eisteddfod BBQ at last weekend fairly slow turnover for the day but we ended up taking $600.00 in sales for the day. Thanks for all that helped out on the day.
No Football gates until the 26th of July
Guest Speaker - Member Behind the Badge - Major Karen Armstrong of The Salvation Army
Karen was born in Yorkshire England, grew up in London and at the age of 10 Karen, her parents and 4 brothers emigrated to Australia (coming out as 10-pound Poms although they had to pay 20 pounds as the older brother was over the age of 14). Settled in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.
On leaving school completed her Nursing training and worked a lot in administration.
Although her family has been involved with the Salvation Army for generations, Karen joined as an officer at the age of 35 and in her role as Captain has had many placements throughout Australia.
She has been involved with the recovery efforts from many bushfires and flood events (said she thought bushfires followed her around the country).
Thank you, Karen, for joining our Rotary Club.
Next week we are going to have the first of our Social Nights which we intend having on the 3rd Wednesday of the Month. This month we are going to the White Horse Hotel in California Gully; this is open to all friends and family.
Carmel will send out a message Sunday Night to get the numbers for the night.
See you all there
Mick Costello
Co-President
