Bendigo Show Car Parking

Another Car Parking effort by our club members.  This time we work in partnership with Lightning Reef Primary School, assisting cars to park within the school grounds while ensuring the safety and protection of their school property.  We've established this over the years at the Swap Meet and the school have now partnered with us for additional events throughout the year as it is a great opportunity to work together and to raise funds for both the school and Rotary.

Thanks to John J, Eric, Ron, Alison for starting off the day, and for the relief team of Gary, Geoff G and Tim for arriving to finish off the day.  Well done also to John J for his exeptional organisation and liaison with the school for this successful event.

Energy Breakthrough Test N Tune

What a brilliant day - glorious weather, and it was such a pleasure to work with the schools and help out by providing lunch for the participants.

This was also the first opportunity to bring out the new promotional tablecloths - they arrived Friday morning, and within an hour we had them on the tables.  Don't they look absolutely stunning!

Well done and thank you to all the helpers on the day - the BBQ's were underway under the watchful eye of an all-female cook team - thanks to Mary, Jennifer and Alison.  Also, thanks to Deb Payne for supporting and her wonderful banter with the students, Ron for leading us for the day and Laurie Preston for your support covering whatever else we needed.

Foundation Dinner
Our normal Wednesday meeting on 28 October will be transferred to Tuesday 27 October to enable members to attend the Goldfields Cluster Rotary Foundation Dinner.
The dinner is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Bendigo and provides an excellent opportunity for fellowship with Rotarians from neighbouring clubs while supporting the valuable work of the Rotary Foundation, particularly the End Polio Now campaign.

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

Meeting on Wednesday, 21st Ocotober of the NYSF students and parents

Jess, Matt and Alissa from the Discovery Team

Rotarians Stewart Annan, Phil Britton, Michael Pearson, Joy Bruce and Lynne Cooper

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

A recent very informative meeting with the TAFE students who may be interested to attend RYLA.

Many thanks to teachers Emily Anderson and Mawson Skidmore, students Michael and Paul (past participants), Georgia Smith (past RYLA leader) and baby Henry (future Rotarian!) Adrian Schoo and Than Aye who has a position with COGB as an EAL Further Studies Student and Intercultural Ambassador.

Our meeting yesterday was another example of our Bendigo Rotary clubs working together with youth programs.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics (STEM)

Joy Bruce sent this article after their recent visit to Discovery Centre and also following our National Youth Science Forum information session this week. It confirms a lot about the value of Rotary and our efforts to help our STEM students and future scientists.

What a fantastic asset to our City of Bendigo. The Discovery Centre was full of primary school students, mums and dads with their young children discovering about science and being curious. To see the last of the Lego Display was a privilege. ‘Brick Man’ is a local Bendigo boy, and the displays were certainly impressive! A large rocket at the front contained nearly 500,000 pieces of Lego. Alissa Van Soest was a NYSF participant 20 years ago, discovered Science Communication, and is now the CEO of the Discovery Centre.
At Discovery, the mission is to ignite curiosity, inspire learning, and make science accessible to everyone. They believe that discovery starts with hands-on exploration, so they create experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Their Impact: Every spark of curiosity at Discovery has the power to shape a brighter future. By making science engaging and accessible, we’re helping young minds build confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills that last a lifetime. https://www.discovery.asn.au/
Rotary in Action supporting STEM in our local schools and community  A STEM program integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to build critical-thinking, problem-solving, and real-world collaboration skills.
