President's Quick Update -

A big thank you to David Bugeja for his informative presentation and discussion on AI and the IT industry this week (Very enlightening).  Our first board meeting was also very productive, and I’m very appreciative of the board members' input and discussion.

Reminders and Updates
  • UPDATE - Rotary Club of Eaglehawk 60th Anniversary: The anniversary event will be held on 8 August. Cashiers will take members’ payments at the next club meeting on Wednesday 29 July only. Members may also transfer payment to the admin account listed on the invitation, but transfers must be completed by 1 August. If you are unable to attend, please let us know you’re an apology by just sending us a quick line to our email - eaglehawkrotary@gmail.com.
  • Rotary Bookshop roster: Gary Frank and Mary Preston are rostered for this Saturday, 25 August. The following week, John Gurr and Geoff Adcock will be on duty. Thank you again to all our volunteers.
  • EFNC gate duty: Our next gate duty is on 1 August. We currently have two or three volunteers for that day, but one more person would be very welcome and would make each of the two shifts more manageable & enjoyable.
  • Borough in Bloom meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 pm on Wednesday 29 July, immediately before the club meeting at the club rooms.
Hope to see you all next week.

Members are reminded that there will be a meeting for the planning of 'Borough in Bloom' next Wednesday, 29th July at 5.30 pm. (immediately prior to our club dinner meeting).
Please follow up with your contacts in regard to Exhibitors or Sponsors and be ready to report to keep us all up to date with progress to date.

Around the club -
There is always a lot happening in and around our club and the clubrooms and the last few weeks have been hectic - but the next few weeks will be even busier.

There are several bookings for events and functions, so a reminder for members to be on the lookout for any area that you may be able to assist with in regard to keeping the facility clean and tidy.

At the recent board meeting, authorisation was given for crockery and cutlery stock to be replenished - unfortunately, the recent call out for 'returns' has not been successful.  The vacuum cleaner will also be replaced - and a reminder that any future issues should be directed to the board to enable us to take advantage of warranty coverage, etc.

The environment area of focus for Rotary International can easily be built into our club activities.  Let's think about how we recycle, for instance.  We can improve our efforts simply by paying attention to the use of our bins, keeping the glass bottles and jars out of the recycling bin and putting them aside to be delivered to the Glass Recycling Container (the closest in Eaglehawk is at Lake Neangar) would be a great way for our efforts to have an even greater impact.  Let's make sure our plastic sauce bottles (and we have a lot of these) go into the recycling bin.

The excessive heat in the kitchen during summer continues to be a concern, so consideration is being given to the relocation, into the kitchen, of the air conditioner that is currently located in the storeroom (formerly an office).

Tablecloths (branded with the club logo) are on order.  These will be a bonus for our public image when we are out and about at BBQ's and public events.

Club members are encouraged to support our 60th Birthday lunch - this is an important milestone for the club - and the day is set to be a wonderful celebration and recognition of the contribution our club has made to the community over the last 60 years.

Luncheon - 8th August 2026 - Have you booked?

City of Greater Bendigo - Survey
A survey is currently being undertaken by the City of Greater Bendigo regarding the observance of a Public Holiday in October/November around Melbourne/Bendigo Cup - so now is your opportunity to contribute your thoughts on this matter -

Have your say on our local public holiday

The City is inviting the community to take part in a survey on the local public holiday arrangements starting from 2027.

Local governments outside Melbourne can apply to swap the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday for a different local public holiday.

In the past, Council has applied for approval to recognise Bendigo Cup Day as the local public holiday for areas west of the Campaspe River.

Community members are being asked to choose only one of the following options:

  • Keep Bendigo Cup Day
  • Change to Bendigo Show Day
  • Change to Melbourne Cup Day

The City’s previous approval ended on October 29, 2025. A one-year extension has been granted to allow time to ask the community which day they would prefer.

Community feedback will be shared with Councillors to help guide their decision.

Survey closes on Sunday August 9.
