We had many members and guests last night, with 21 in attendance, we had apologies from Lynne Cooper and Karen Armstrong. Our visitors were Mandy Costello and
our guest speaker Leanne Anderson.
We had a report from the bonfire on Saturday night last and all who attended had a great
night. Although there were a couple of reports of a difficult Sunday afterwards. The whisky tasting was well patronised and together with the raffle raised over $500.00 towards Foundation. Congratulations and thanks again to Gary and Lola Frank.
Guest speaker Leanne Anderson along with a friend, recently completed a Camino pilgrimage from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, crossing the Pyrenees mountains and
northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela and the tomb of St James, passing through several Spanish towns and cities including Pamplona, Burgos, Leon, and Ponferrada.
The journey covered 754 kilometres and took approximately six weeks, with daily walks of six to eight hours. Other friends joined the trip at various points for shorter segments. During the pilgrimage, she experienced a knee injury but was able to continue after resting. She noted that several different “Caminos” end at the Santiago cathedral, which was crowded with many other pilgrims. Throughout her presentation, Leanne showed photographs taken during her walk. Her route, called the Camino Frances, is marked in yellow on the map below.
Prior to this journey, she trained by hiking around Victoria, mostly on weekends. Leanne also mentioned being interested in completing another Camino in the future, circumstances permitting.
Next week we have another guest speaker talking about his life on a “Super Yacht” and
sailing in exotic places around the world, you are sure to enjoy this presentation on “how the other half live”.
