February 12th 2025

What an inspiration to hear from Keely Fullarton, a local, having attended California Gully Primary School and from a renowned sporting family of the area.  Keely was drafted to the AFLW Gold Coast Suns late in 2023 and after an initial setback with shin splints, debuted on Grand Final Eve in 2024 against Collingwood.  Keely spoke of her passion for the sport but also her passion for her family involvement in the Greyhound racing industry.  Keely has a special connection with Rotarian Jennifer Sanderson, Jen having not only taught but also having been inspirational in Keely's interest in science, evidenced by her choice of university course.  It's always good to be able to highlight a local success story and so far Keely has definitely been that, but also has a very bright future ahead of her.

We were also pleased to welcome representative of the RC Castlemaine, President Terry Murphy and Rotarian Rob Airton.  An interesting observation from Rob was that it was a good experience to visit another club to broaden the views and knowledge about Rotary.  This is so true!  So it will be great when Eaglehawk's meeting is moved to Castlemaine on the 5th March for our members to experience the Castlemaine club and to learn about the work they are currently doing in their community.

We will have a float in the Dahlia & Arts procession on the 15th March, this will be featuring the upcoming Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet, whilst also promoting our club to the locals.  Earlier in the day we'll be setting up in Canterbury Park our donuts/drinks stand, it was so popular last year that we have received a special invitation to again participate.

A lot happening at the moment, catering for the CFA this weekend will be busy.  Eric is in charge of the roster, with shift times listed below.  Please make sure you let him know when you are coming along - many hands make light work!

There is a great deal of additional information in this bulletin - Songs at the Silos, D9800 New Member Event, Inner Wheel Fashion Parade, Festival of Friendship, District 9800 Conference.  Want to know more?  Simply scroll down to the article/flyer on these events for further details.

Book Shop -

Rita drew attention to the ongoing need for members to assist with the disposal of the excess books.  Always check for bags/boxes at the rear door of the Mechanics as you leave the meetings.  Editors Note - updated information has now been received from the City of Greater Bendigo advising that we will now have an option for disposal of unwanted books at the Eaglehawk Recycle yard - good news!  Our thanks to all members who have been assisting in providing the alternative option over recent months.

Youth News -

Lynne advised that applications are currently open for RYPEN participants and asked that members be on the lookout for potential students that would benefit from participating.

President Alison

Please contact Eric with your availability to help fill the blanks in the roster.

Catering for the CFA Championships
An annual event that we enjoy supporting.  We will be back on deck again on the 15th & 16th February when Bendigo has agreed to the CFA late request to host another event.  Always a lot of fun and a great opportunity for our club to partner with another local service organisation.

Weekly Dinner Meeting Attendance

Another slight amendment to ensure we are working with the caterers for the best outcome for the club.  The cutoff for meeting apologies is now 6pm Tuesday (being the day before the club meeting). This change better addresses the timeframes required by the caterer.  It is presumed that all members will be attending the meeting, so if you are actually an apology then contact Carmel prior to 6pm the day before to advise accordingly.  All meals ordered will require payment by the members.

... and from Rotary Club of Bendigo South

Tibetan Dumplings & Culture with Dorje and Lhamo Tsering.  A social opportunity for members (and partners) of the Rotary Clubs of Bendigo South & Kangaroo Flat, and now the Rotary Club of Eaglehawk to savour Tibetan Dumplings and to learn about Tibetan culture from Dorje and Lhamo Tsering.

When: 12:00pm, Sunday 2 March 2025.
Where: Gateway Park, High Street, Kangaroo Flat

The bar will be open.  Please do not bring any alcohol drinks with you.  The number is limited to 40 persons, but at present there should be some places available for RC of Eaglehawk members.  Please let me know on 0416192032 if you wish to attend.  Also indicate if you prefer vegetarian dumplings.
