Eaglehawk's club meeting is moved to Castlemaine next week (5th March)  This is an opportunity for our members to experience the Castlemaine club and to learn about the work they are currently doing in their community.  Numbers have now been finalised and Carmel has organised the car pooling needs of the members.  The meeting venue is The Cumberland Hotel Bistro, 191 Barker St Castlemaine.

Last week's bulletin referred to the 'Christmas Stocking Raffle Committee' - bit of a typo there, we haven't run the 'stocking' raffle for several years - what it should have said was 'The Christmas Trailer Raffle'.

Our guest speaker, Sue Foley gave an outstanding presentation to the meeting.  We can claim Sue as a 'local', she grew up in Long Gully, spending her childhood looking over Bendigo from her front door.  From an early age Sue was a very talented singer and studied under Bendigo's renowned Mavis Webster, going on to spend 6 years at the College of the Arts in Melbourne.  After a short operatic career Sue then moved into Celtic music and some 35 years later is still performing and thoroughly enjoying it.  As a long standing and very active Rotarian Sue has been the driving force behind supporting the Mission to Seafarers, developing a program to help identify mental health issues and the Melbourne Celtic Festival St. Patrick's Day event.  Money raised through this event goes to Australian Rotary Health and over the last 3 years funds raised have been in excess of $50,000.  Sue will be bringing the festival to Bendigo with a performance on Sunday 23rd March at the Capital Theatre.  More information can be found at www.melbournecelticfestival.com.au or by visiting the event page - https://www.facebook.com/events/987682610086883/

Secretary John will be emailing members with details about the clubs forthcoming BBQ commitments.  This is a busy time for the club (we seem to be saying that every month though don't we!).  The ESC Burra Day Friday 28th, the Bendigo Fun Run Sunday 2nd March and then next weekend the Bunnings BBQ (see article on International Women's Day)

It was my pleasure as President to present to PDG Ron Payne his latest Paul Harris Pin - this new one with a ruby stone!  Ron is a member of The Paul Harris Society, committed to an annual contribution of US$1,000.  That's an amazing commitment to the Rotary Foundation and our club are all very proud of what Ron has achieved over the last few years.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.  IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

As we have a Bunnings BBQ on 8th March this is a great opportunity to support a cause that is specifically aimed at improving the lives of women!  There are many ways we can do this, but let's focus on what affects 1 in 7 women, and is not talked about anywhere near enough.

Rotary Annual Theme Discontinued
For many years Rotary have annually had a theme chosen by the Rotary International President that is representative of the goals or the issues to be highlighted.  This annual change of 'logos' was never actually meant to be used publicly but more so for internal Rotary use (who knew)!

In the opinion of RI this has now led to confusion and has somewhat weakened the Rotary branding.  Therefore logos depicting an annual theme will no longer be used after the current rotary year.  Here is the current RI Presidential Message in this regard -

The Rotary Club of Rochester's Songs at the Silos - a free to attend event that would be a shame if you missed - support the local community and enjoy an evening of Opera.
We support the Inner Wheel Club of Bendigo in various ways, they are a community partner in the selling of the Christmas Trailer Raffle Tickets and they meet at our clubrooms on a monthly basis under the 'Rotary Usage' agreement.  The Fashion Parade and 'Delicious' afternoon Tea will be a lot of fun and a great opportunity for our members, friends and families to further support this arm of Rotary.
Our club will  have an entry in the procession along with the Donuts/Drinks stall in Canterbury Park on the day, 15th March 2025
A reminder that the early bird rate of a reduced registration fee, finishes at the end of February - so if you are attending, now (today) would be the time to book.

Rotarian Karen Armstrong has requested club members support as follows -

A few weeks ago, I spoke to you about the possibility to look for billets for when I have a visit from The Melbourne Staff Band.
I have been contacted by the band, and yes, I am looking for anyone who could have a band person stay at their home on the Saturday evening.

I have 18 beds now to find, which there are 3 females in this number.  They will only be at the persons home after the Saturday evening concert, and they will be required to give them breakfast on Sunday morning. And the billet will need to leave by 9am the next morning.

Would it be possible if there could be any Rotarian's who are willing to assist me in this area, please.  I am very happy for you to give out my phone number or they can find me on the club's contact list.

Thank you so much for your amazing support.
Karen's contact number is 0401 402 275.
Rotarians are invited to join the Karen Community at the Water Festival.  Numbers are required for catering purposes so please let GP know if you will be attending.
