Co-Presidents' Report

We received apologies from nine members for this week’s meeting: Karen Armstrong, Brian Fitzpatrick, GP, Ron Payne, Lindsay Walkington, Ben Hill, Rita O’Brien, Barb Leane, and Gary Frank.

A brief quiz was conducted using questions sourced from beer tops we have collected over time. This activity was well received, and Mick and I intend to incorporate it into future weekly meetings. As this was our inaugural quiz, the rules are still under development. We currently have enough questions to support this initiative for an extended period. There was no definitive winner last night we had a 3-way tie.

The primary focus of last night's gathering was planning, during which we formed a committee to assist with Australia Day activities. Sincere thanks to Kylie, Mary, Carmel, and Eric for volunteering to assist me in the organisation of this important project.

Additionally, progress on the BBQ trailer has stalled for some time. Mick will now lead a committee dedicated to advancing this project.

The Eaglehawk Festivals organisation have released the theme for the Dahlia and Arts Festival which will be held on the 20th – 22nd March next year. The theme is HARVEST.
They are encouraging all to get creative with their costumes and floats.
  • Farmers and scarecrows.
  • Farm animals.
  • Best cardboard tractors and Decorated wheelbarrows.
  • Paper mâché fruits and veggies.
  • Milk and dairy inspired outfits.
  • And they are looking forward to seeing our incredible vegetable/farm themed floats in the parade.
Gary has offered to lead this and will need some eager volunteers to assist him with this community project.

The Rotary Club of Bendigo are holding a celebration recognising their centenary on Saturday 23rd August with a Gala Dinner at the All-Seasons Resort please see the bulletin regarding a terrific offer.

We only have two more Saturdays to staff the gates at the local football, many thanks to those who put their hands up. Carmel and Lynne will be there between 9.30 and 12 on Saturday followed by Mick and myself. The last home game is on the 23rd of August if you are available, please let me know.

The Eaglehawk Secondary College has postponed their wellbeing day for a couple of weeks; this is held each year. (formally RUOK day) We will cook a BBQ lunch for the students. We will remind members when this occurs.

Lynne organised a quick meeting amongst her “youth project workers” and the “board” held a meeting after our general meeting.

Happy Birthday to Tim on Friday

Until next week

Board Meeting Snippets
A couple of important notes that came out of the club board meeting this week.
  • A program for members to update their Food Safety Awareness will be arranged and presented by President Geoff Gallagher.  This has been identified as an area that will help to provide support to our members to ensure that we always meet health standards and obligations.
  • The survey of club members with regard to the Great Aussie Camping Swap Meet will be underway shortly.
  • The Marvellous Miles Program is underway and will be finalised before the end of 2025.
  • The District Governor Visit to our club is scheduled for Wednesday 1st October.  Pop it in your diaries and make sure you invite your partner to come along to hear up to the minutes details on what is happening in our District.
  • Plans are also underway to have DG Peter available to visit the bookshop - a project that he is already aware of and mentioned that he would like to visit - the date to be confirmed shortly.
100 Years of Rotary in Bendigo
Club members have responded positively to the opportunity to share in the celebrations with the Rotary Club of Bendigo, therefore our meeting on the 20th August is transferred to Saturday the 23rd August when our club will meet with and join the RC Bendigo in celebrating 100 Years of Rotary in Bendigo.

At the board meeting it was agreed that the club would subsidise 50% of ticket costs for club members and their partners attending.  This is a way of supporting our members to attend but to also show our clubs respect to the occasion.

It is really important that we book as soon as possible so please contact Alison with your booking before next Wednesday so as tables can be booked for the event.

Saturday 23rd August will be witness to a major Rotary event in Bendigo.  The Rotary Club of Bendigo celebrate 100 years since they were chartered and the celebrations on this day will be in the form of a Gala Dinner.  Our club are proud of our connection with the Bendigo Rotary club as they were our sponsoring club back in 1966 when we were chartered.  So, not only is this a celebration for the Bendigo Club but it is in fact a celebration for all rotary clubs in Bendigo as this is a significant milestone for us as well.  100 years of Rotary in Bendigo - that is quite an achievement and one to be celebrated.

Pleasant Sunday Afternoon
Last Sunday, 20th July 2025, a Pleasant Sunday Afternoon was presented at the Eaglehawk Uniting Church.  The afternoon was arranged to raise funds for the Bendigo Winter Night Shelter program by our own member Major Karen Armstrong (Salvation Army) Eaglehawk Corp with “the help of some friends”.

The participants were the Eaglehawk Citizens Brass Band, The Couriers and the Golden City Pipe Band.  The music from all participants was lively and warmly welcomed.  The Couriers are a Melbourne based Male Quartet that perform Gospel music.  The Pipe Band marched into the Church and played a number of well-known tunes before marching out. Those attending were noticed tapping their toes, particularly Major Karen Armstrong (Not sure why that would be???).  I do not think that there has ever been a Pipe Band playing in the Eaglehawk Church before, however everyone seemed to get into the swing of things.

There was a fairly fully house, with those attending, including Cr. Andrea Metcalf, Mayor City of Greater Bendigo, who were pleased to spend a PSA listening to well presented music.  The Guest speaker was Chris Dalton, from the BWNS program, who spoke of the work of the program and announced that the afternoon has raised a total of $1650.00, which was a great result.  Special thanks to the Eaglehawk Citizens Brass Band, The Couriers, and Golden City Pipe Band for making the afternoon a very Pleasant Sunday Afternoon.
