October 8th, 2025

Hi all, we had a big list of apologies this week. Alison Bacon, Gary Frank, G.P, Rita
O’Brien, Ron Payne, Kyle Rowbottom, Jenny Sanderson, and Tim Watts.

Members who were there enjoyed hearing a lot more about our newest member Ben Hill, who was expertly interviewed by John Pearce.

Ben told us about his early years growing up, his education and his early career.  He was nominated for junior citizen of the year and was successful in winning.  This started Ben off on his journey with volunteering, firstly with Rotaract and then with Rotary.  He mentioned that his and Allie’s move to Bendigo was a lifestyle choice and we are very happy that he has chosen to join Eaglehawk Rotary.

Next week Liz Bannon will talk about a terrifically successful Rotary Project started in Ballina Northern NSW, say No to domestic violence.  This project has spread rapidly and will soon be recognised nationally.

Thanks to those who are going to the Woodvale Fair for the Pop-Up Bookshop on Saturday and to those who have offered to help with the Whipstick Walk for Polio, which is on this Sunday at 8.30 AM at Whipstick Road.

Ben chose Rotary Eaglehawk
Recently moved into Central Victoria, Ben has spent a considerable amount of time auditioning the local clubs to see where he would continue his rotary membership.  Our club were delighted with his final decision.  At our recent meeting Ben gave us an insight into his journey within Rotary and his passion and commitment to community volunteerism is evident.  It is an absolute pleasure to have him working within Rotary Eaglehawk and we look forward to exciting times ahead.  Welcome to the team Ben.

Woodvale Market
We are on the road again, the bookshop will be popping up at the Woodvale Market Saturday 18th October.
Trading from 8.00am through until 1pm

Come along, buy some books and save us having to take them back to the shop!

Whipstick Walk to End Polio
Harriet Caldwell
Recently our club supported Harriet with a donation towards her fundraising efforts to assist with her travel and the costs associated with her endeavours into the world of Wheelchair basketball.
Harriet will be joining us this week to share the story about the total redirection her life has taken after suffering a rare spinal cord stroke.

Emergency Relief in Central Victoria
Our club has the opportunity to participate in a 'round table' discussion with other Rotary Clubs in Central Victoria with regard to a proposal to establish a local facility along the lines of the Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (or otherwise known as RIMERN).

This idea has long been simmering in the background as to its potential within central Victoria, but now we have a Rotarian in the area who is keen to get the ball rolling to investigate the potential of such a facility.  Gary Pinner, Rotary Club of Bendigo South, has invited all 14 clubs in our Rotary Community Group to join together on a zoom meeting on Friday 24th October to open the discussions and to gauge the level of interest within the clubs.

All club leaders have been asked to speak with their club's members in the lead up to the zoom meeting in the hope of encouraging those with an interest in this idea to join in on this initial meeting.  Participation will help to determine the potential for the establishment of such a facility.  For those members not familiar with what the program can look like, here is a link the RIMERN website - giving you an idea as to what could eventuate locally.  RIMERN Home - RIMERN - Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network

For members interested in more information, speak with either President Geoff or President Mick and ask them to forward to you the link for the zoom meeting.

A French connection.....?
Zarhon, our guest speaker from a few weeks back, is back at work on another super yacht trip.
Nice to see he has taken a piece of Eaglehawk with him - our rotary cup clearly has pride of place on the yacht!
