10th June, 2026
Hi All,

We are coming to the end of Geoff and my year as Co-Presidents, so this week we had Lindsay Walkington (Incoming President) as the Person Behind the Badge.

Lindsay covered his life, growing up in Cohuna, schooling, beginning his apprenticeship as an Electrician, moving on to work for the old SEC, and starting his business as an Electrical Inspector.

He told us about meeting Marg after gatecrashing her Birthday party, married life and their 3 boys.

Lindsay finished off talking about how he joined Rotary and what he is expecting for his year as President.

Good luck with your Presidency, and hope you enjoy it as Geoff and I have.

Apologies for this week were:  GP, Lynne Cooper, Tim Watts, John Pearce, Karen Armstrong, Ron Payne, Jennifer Sanderson, John Gurr and Rita O’Brien.  We hope John and Rita are on the mend from their colds.

The Carlton United Quiz was won by Lindsay. Well done, Lindsay.

On Sunday, we did our annual catering at the Central Victorian Mopar Car Show. A big thank you to all who helped with the day, both organising the supplies and cooking and serving on the day.

This coming week we are going to have a review of our year as Presidents, so please come along and provide us with feedback on our performance as Presidents, both the good and what we could have done better. We look forward to your opinion on how we have gone.

Mick Costello
Co-President

Chairs for the Mechanics Facility
We recently collected a number of chairs from the town hall for use at the Mechanics. Most are in very good condition but do need a serious clean before a function on the 20th and our changeover on the 26th and so we are proposing a small working bee on Wednesday next week at 5:30 to clean them up (prior to our meeting). Cleaning materials supplied. Hope to see you there,

John

Club Changeover Dinner
Plans are in place, as we welcome Lindsay and Margaret back from their overseas holiday it's great that they have returned full of beans for the year ahead.  Lindsay is keen to get underway and has indicated that his main focus will be the 'Borough in Bloom - Bendigo Garden Expo' - John J has put a lot of work into the planning for this and Lindsay is sure it will be the first of an ongoing annual event.

The Club Changeover invites are out, those members yet to reply, now is the time to check in with partners and family to see who is going to be joining you and get your responses in.

Rotary Bookshop
Winter has arrived!  Great to see, hear, and feel the rain falling over the last few days.  On the other hand, the number of people out and about and visiting the book shop normally drops off at this time of year, so Rita and her team of willing helpers have revised the book shop's opening hours.

Over the next few months, these new hours will apply -

Wednesdays - 10am-12noon
Saturdays - 10am-12noon

Club Bonfire Night
And another save the date - Saturday 4th July.

The club's annual bonfire night is on again - Gary and Lola are again hosting the night and this will be a fun filled night as it always is.

RC Bendigo South
Science and Engineering Challenge Tuesday July 28

Once again, the Rotary Club of Bendigo South will be conducting the Annual Science and Engineering Challenge for year 10 students from several local Secondary Colleges. This year’s event will be held in the multi-purpose facility at Girton Grammar. To ensure this will again be great learning experience for all those students who participate we do need additional activity supervisors. The time commitment is from 8 am until 2.30 pm with lunch provided. Supervisors work together in pairs, sometimes in threes and look after just one activity for the day. Prepared instructions are provided by the University of Newcastle usually 2 weeks prior to the event. Further instructions are also provided in the morning prior to activities commencing at 9.30 am. If you would like to help, please let Tony Plant know by phoning 0408590589 or email to anthony.plant@bigpond.com

Malaysia Special Education Teachers
UPDATE

Two Malaysia Special Education teachers still need home hosts for their time in Bendigo for 20 August to 5 September 2026.

I now need homes to host two of the teachers for the last 17 days of their visit. They will be located at either the Bendigo Special Developmental School or at Kalianna School during their time in Bendigo. They will need to be transported to and from their school. Please let me know if you can home host one or more of the teachers during that time and for how long.

I can be contacted by phone (0416 192 032) or email (lj@joll.net).
