December 3rd, 2025
Hi all, quite a few apologies this week - Mick Costello, Gary Frank, Ben Hill, Rita O’Brien, Mary Preston, Lindsay Walkington and Tim Watts.

Our guests were Ronda and Peter Hazell who came all the way from Creswick for Ronda to be our guest speaker.

Ronda is a keen patchwork fan.  She turned 55 last year and decided to be pro-active with her health.  She went to her doctor for a complete and thorough check-up.  This resulted in a diagnosis of a dilated aorta (aneurism).

Ronda joined an on-line support group which connected her to other women from around the world.  She has decided to illustrate the significant impact of heart disease on women, by inviting others to send a patchwork piece 20cm x 20cm along with the person’s short story.

Rhonda hopes to gather at least 100 patches from around the world and create a quilt which can be displayed at patchwork exhibitions in Australia and around the world.  She has so far had support from Germany, England the USA and of course Australia.  Ronda has called her project 100+ Hearts Project.  More information is available at www.anakiequilter.au

A big thank you to all who helped with the Christmas raffle, Children’s festival, CFA Championships and Nativity scene last week and earlier this week.  An extremely
busy weekend.

Fundraising for November has raised considerable funds so well done.

This weekend we are parking cars at the Great Stupa and on Tuesday we are catering for breakfast at the Eaglehawk Secondary College.  John has circulated a roster, please help if you are available.  Our club is responsible for the raffle trailer for our final week next week and I am looking for someone help by collecting the money and EPTPOS machine from
Lansell Square on Sunday at 2pm.  Also volunteers to collect the money and books
next week.  Please call me on 0428 127766.  Many hands make light work.

Our Christmas break-up is to be held at Brian and Gail Fitzpatrick’s on the 17th December, as the money collectors are having a well-earned rest, please ensure you have paid before the night.

Next week we have Kaye Lehmann from Food-share as our guest speaker.

A very happy birthday to Karen Armstrong on Sunday.

Rotary Emergency Relief Facility Proposal
We were recently joined by Rotarian Gary Pinner, Rotary Club of Bendigo South, who shared with our members the proposal currently being investigated in regard to providing a Relief Centre Warehouse Facility in Central Victoria.

Gary outlined the investigative work done to date, including details of the tour of the Ballarat facility that serves a regional area similar to what is being proposed locally.

Gary will be further exploring the interest of the other Rotary Clubs in the area and is keen to form a committee of representatives of the local clubs to continue the preliminary work needed that will determine the future prospects of such a proposal.

Rotarian Ron Payne has expressed a keen interest in supporting Gary in this endeavour.  Our club were impressed with the work done to date and are keen to see the extent of interested parties within the area.

CFA Track Event
An early morning start at the RF Turner track at Lake Weeroona, meant members were setting up (before some were awake apparently!).  Well done to the band of workers who pulled it all together (at times in trying circumstances - surprisingly the gas bbq's actually need gas to run, who knew!).  Many thanks to Lindsay for saving the day with a quick trip and in no time, he was back and we were up and running again.

We were again blessed (thanks Karen) with the weather holding out for us and a very successful day of catering.  Looking forward to returning to the scene of the crime (with gas) to do it all again for the next event early in the New Year.

Children's Festival
The Children's Festival was again an absolute joy to be a part of.  The families, children, and the entertainment were delightful and even the weather held out for us, with just a few drops of rain just to keep us on our toes!  Our club thanks go to the extra helper, who jumped in and gave us a hand serving, it wasn't until after the fact that we realised, we didn't even get her name, but, a huge thank you all the same - your kindness was very much appreciated.  Special thanks to Mary, Eric, Laurie and Alison - the queue kept you all busy.

Helping the Salvos!
A team of our Rotarians turned out last week to be part of the assembly line putting together Christmas packs in readiness for deliverey by the Salvos to the prisons.  A fun couple of hours of enjoyment working in the community with other volunteers and knowing that the impact of our efforts would be well worth it.

Christmas Trailer Raffle
This week's sales have been a great success, moving us ahead of last year's sales!  Well done to all ticket sellers.  Alex and Trevor, volunteers from the City of Bendigo Brass Band, can be seen here setting up for the day's sales last Saturday at the Bendigo Market Place.

A reminder to our club members, the raffle books that have been distributed to you for sale also play an important role in the overall success of this raffle each year.  Remember, you are not expected to buy them, but any tickets that you can sell to family and friends is greatly appreciated.  Let's see if we can go one better than last year - GP we are looking at you - how many books did you sell last year........?  Was it 10?  Members are asked to return your books (preferably with at least some tickets sold) to Alison this Wednesday 10th December.

Planning is underway for our 2026 Australia Day breakfast and a huge part of that event is the announcement of the Eaglehawk Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year.  Nominations are now open and forms are available to download from the club website at -

If you know someone who has made an enormous contribution to our local community and you feel would be worthy of recognition, then here is your chance.  Jump on-line, download and complete the nomination form, sending it in to us before 1st January 2026.

We are keen to hear from you and to find the next worthy recipient of the Citizen, or Young Citizen of the year for the Eaglehawk Community.

Your help is valued - and needed!
Secretary John has emailed members with reminders as to the upcoming club commitments and our need to fill some rosters.

It's appreciated that our lives are busy and we have other commitments, so, it would be a great help if we also knew if you are unavailable, that way we get a clearer, and earlier, indication of how we will spread the workload.
